Update (October 15)
The Local 811 Grievance Committee was successful in stopping the company here in IAH from applying their plan to reduce the number of premium weeks available for workers to bid on. This means that not only will the bid proceed on the original time frames, it will also include all the holiday and summer weeks that United negotiators wanted to take off the bid.
"It is with great pleasure that we would like to announce that the company and union have come to an agreement regarding vacation" Grievance Committee Chair Victor Hernandez said in a statement on the IAH Ramp Virtual Union Board Facebook group.
Agents with more questions should contact the Grievance Committee, the resource office, and stay in touch on the IAH Virtual Union Board Group.

Update (October 13)
Company negotiators are attempting to reduce the number of premium weeks, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, that will be available for agents to select from on the upcoming vacation bid. Our union negotiators have refused to agree to this reduction. The Grievance Committee Chairman, Victor Hernandez, issued a statement via Facebook on the matter, saying that "As of today, we can't and won't agree with the company's proposal to cut liability (available vacation weeks) from premium weeks." Hernandez went on to say that if an agreement is not reached soon, the vacation bid may be postponed until the issues can be resolved.
In addition to unfairly removing high-demand vacation weeks, the company has also failed to inform agents of how many open slots are available for each week. Agents often use this information when deciding to bid on block weeks, especially when bidding with a proxy form. Chairman Hernandez addressed this issue as well, pointing out that making this information available is a contractual requirement.
Chairman Hernandez promised to fight for a fair share for the Local 811 members. "This is not the most desirable situation, but we will not stand for things that are not beneficial to the employees" said Hernandez.
More information will be posted as soon as it becomes available, including any changes to the timeline that has been issued so far. The full statement by Chairman Hernandez, as well as further discussion of this issue, can be found posted on the IAH Ramp Virtual Union Board Facebook group.

frequently asked questions
If I don't have any idea how to participate in the vacation bid at IAH, what should I do?
Don't worry. Just contact any shop steward, and he or she will walk you through the whole process. When you show up a few minutes before your scheduled bid time, there will be people there that can help you. You can also stop by Resource at any time, and they can help explain it to you. What is a Proxy Form? If you can't get to the walk up bid, then you will need to fill out a Proxy Form and turn it in to Resource on time. When your scheduled bid time comes, your choices will be recorded based on available weeks. Where do I drop off my Proxy Forms? Proxy Forms need to be dropped off at the Resource Office. You will receive a date stamped copy of your Proxy Form. Where do we bid for our vacation? By the Training Department, near E16. It's in the same location as last year. What if I just skip the whole vacation bid? If you don't participate in the walk up bid, and you don't turn in a proxy bid form, you will be assigned weeks from the vacation weeks that are left after everyone else has bid. Monthly mini-bids will not begin until week 2 of 2016. This means that it will be impossible to change weeks 1-4. How can I have someone else bid for me in the walk-up bid? This is a little easier than last year. Just fill out a proxy form and take it to resource to get it time stamped. Next, just give the time stamped copy of your proxy to the person bidding for you. No authorization letter is needed. Where are the bid times posted? They are available online at http://portal.ual.com/ and also the resource office. Use your U Number and your Network Password. |
