New Thinking from the Front Lines |
|
We want the next generation of innovation to come from IAH. You can help make that happen by submitting your ideas for creating a better union now. We will post your proposals here, divided into three broad categories: Jobs, Union and Community. Highlighted entries have attracted activist or Local Lodge interest, and may be developed into specific, one-time projects. Remember: Local 811 is a "Flat" organization. That means that anyone can start working on anything on this list; there are no leadership or approval requirements. As a member of the IAM, you have the power to greenlight a project that will address any one of these items. You have the authority to recruit staff or volunteers and activists to work on them, and you can even request funding to finance your project. If you think that you might have the unique tools or skills to make something great happen, please contact any member of the E Board to find out how to get started today.
NEW! Sponsor a Proposal
Below are some proposals for action that have been submitted to the Local 811 Executive Board by Ramp Agents. You can help make make these ideas happen by sponsoring them. Here's how it works:
By sponsoring a proposal, you are publicly voicing support for that action. The more sponsors a proposal can attract, the better the odds that it will be adopted and get funded. Some ideas can only happen with company support, but your sponsorship will go a long way towards convincing decision makers to implement the suggested program. To submit your own proposal, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page. Once proposed, an idea will be left on the board for 30 days.

Photo Contest
A motion to launch a monthly or weekly photography contest to showcase ramp pride, and to promote our profession.
Spring is coming, and bringing inspiration with it. Ramp workers can help show how much we love the work we do, by revealing the talent and creativity of fleet service workers. Our jobs give us the ability to put a sharp focus on many exciting photographic opportunities, from travel, dedicated workers, and stunning skyscapes. The winning entries could be featured on social media, our local website at Local811Houston.org, and in flyers and handouts.

Clothes Dryers for Ramp Agents
A motion to purchase, deliver and install several clothes dryers for agents to use in cold or rainy weather.
Although Houston winters are mild compared to other regions, IAH agents still get caught in cold rain from time to time. Staying cold and wet while at work creates workplace stress, and can lead to safety issues. Other stations have addressed this by positioning clothes dryers near break areas for ramp agents to use. IAH could benefit from this strategy.

More Retirement Programs for IAH Members
A Motion to create more ways for IAH retirees to remain active within Local 811 following retirement, and to help navigate the retirement process
Retirees have the most experience, and most potential free time, of any member of Local 811. We should not allow these assets to go to waste. Local 811 should create ways for these expert activists to stay involved after retirement, to help future retirees understand the retirement process, how they can best prepare themselves for a comfortable retirement, and other critical needs.
